Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas Recipe – Beginner

Looking for the tastiest of Mexican or just short of time for dinner? Let’s wrap up sour cream chicken enchiladas and be the best chef ever!

What is an Enchilada?

An enchilada is a corn tortilla, rolled around a flavorful filling and smothered in a savory sauce. Traditionally, the filling can include meats, beans, chilies, or even potatoes, inspired by the rich flavors of Mexican cuisine.

Though the word “enchilada” simply means “chili peppered,” the dish has evolved far beyond its humble origins. Originally, enchiladas were simply tortillas dipped in chili sauce. Over time, however, the dish has become more diverse, with endless variations of fillings and sauces.

While some purists may argue that enchiladas should always feature chili, modern versions often skip the heat entirely, focusing instead on the rich, saucy goodness that makes enchiladas so beloved.

What Isn’t an Enchilada?

The beauty of enchiladas is in their versatility. Fillings can range from meat to beans to vegetables, so there’s no one “correct” way to prepare them. Some people even skip the traditional corn tortillas and use flour tortillas instead, or get creative with other ingredients. While that might stray from tradition, it’s still delicious!

In fact, flour tortillas are perfect for soaking up the sour cream and cheese topping, creating a wonderfully comforting dish.

How to Make Enchiladas

Making sour cream chicken enchiladas is quick and simple, especially if you have pre-made ingredients. Start with a rotisserie chicken, store-bought tortillas, grated cheese, and sour cream. Just roll them together, cover with sauce, and bake. In the time it takes a six-year-old to set the table, your enchiladas will be ready to enjoy!

If you want to elevate your dish, consider making your own chicken filling from scratch, or even crafting homemade tortillas for an extra special touch. It takes a little more time, but the added flavors will make it worth the effort.

Why Make Enchiladas?

You don’t always need to cook everything from scratch to create an impressive meal. With enchiladas, you can have a satisfying, flavorful dinner with minimal effort if you plan ahead. Even if you’re not a fan of store-bought tortillas, you can still make a delicious enchilada dinner with ease.
