Looking forward to BBQ but less so into sugary sauces? Let’s make this low carb keto BBQ sauce and enjoy any meal without truces!

Ingredients
Caramelized onion
- 2 medium / 250g Onion
 - 2 tablespoons / 30g Cooking oil

Sauce
- 1 cup / 250g Pureed tomato
 - 1 teaspoon / 5g Salt
 - 1 teaspoon / 2g Black pepper
 - 2 teaspoons / 4g Paprika (smoked if any)
 - 2 cloves / 6g Garlic
 - 2 teaspoons / 10g Apple cider vinegar
 - 1 teaspoon / 5g Cloves
 - 1 teaspoon / 5g Liquid smoke (if smoked paprika isn’t enough or available)

How to make BBQ sauce
Smoked and Sweet
- Start by making caramelized onion. If artificial sweetener is used skip these steps and start with step 5 but otherwise slice up the onions.

 - Pour oil into a saucepan, add the onions and salt then saute until it gets a glassy / translucent look.

 - Lower the heat and cook while stirring occasionally until it gets a golden brown look for about 20 minutes.

 - Add pureed tomato, black pepper, paprika, garlic, apple cider vinegar, cloves and optional liquid smoke.

 - Blend everything together. Olive oil can turn the reddish sauce to an orange shade. It’s normal.

 - Place the saucepan onto a cooktop and on low to medium heat evaporate the liquid from the sauce until getting the desired thickness.

Enjoy!

Tomato can be so much more than just Tomato sauce. A bit of this or a bit of that makes a difference:
