Where Did Cheesecake Come From?

Cheesecake has roots in Europe, dating back to the 15th century. But the version we enjoy today didn’t really begin to take shape until the 18th century. The big breakthrough came in the late 1800s, when American cream cheese was invented—not to make cheesecake better, but as a low-cost alternative to a French cheese called Neufchatel. That creamy, rich cheese became the perfect base for the modern cheesecake we now know and love.

Types of Cheesecakes

There are two main kinds of cheesecake:

  • No-Bake Cheesecake
These are chilled in the fridge rather than baked. They’re easy to make and don’t require eggs or an oven. Because they’re simpler, they’re also a good choice if you’re looking for a lighter, less rich dessert—just watch out for added thickeners like gelatin.
  • Baked Cheesecake
This is the classic, creamy kind that’s baked in the oven. It often includes ingredients like sour cream, ricotta, or cottage cheese. While it can take a little practice to perfect, it offers a richer, more traditional flavor and texture.

What’s the Best Option for Bite-Sized Cheesecakes?

If you love the idea of cheesecake in smaller portions (think snacks or healthy treats on the go), bite-sized cheesecakes are the way to go. But here’s the catch:
No-bake cheesecakes don’t hold up well in small molds like muffin tins—they’re too soft and tricky to remove. You could add gelatin or agar-agar for firmness, but that changes the texture and taste.

For cheesecake bites that hold their shape and still taste like the real thing, baked cheesecakes are the best option. Plus, they bake faster in small sizes and you don’t have to worry about burning the top!

Why Choose Cheesecake Bites?

Bite-sized cheesecakes are simply mini versions of the full-size classic. They’re perfect for portion control, sharing, or even meal prepping your dessert for the week. You can also customize each one with different healthy toppings—think fresh berries, nuts, or a drizzle of dark chocolate.

They’re portable, fun, and make it easier to enjoy a little indulgence without going overboard.
